Motion Pay to be Gold Sponsor of Alibaba’s Toronto Business Conference — Gateway ’17

Canada’s largest provider of Alipay to showcase its payment platform at September 25 event

September 19, 2017 – Motion Pay Technology Inc., the first and the largest provider of Alipay payment solutions in Canada, is the proud gold sponsor of a high-profile Alibaba-hosted Toronto conference for Canadian businesses seeking to expand Chinese commercial, tourism and trade opportunities. As an Alipay provider, Motion Pay helps Chinese consumers shop with their Alipay accounts in Canada. Operated by Ant Financial Services Group, Alipay is the world’s largest mobile and online payment platform with over 520 million active users. Ant Financial is a related company of Alibaba.

Gateway ’17 takes place at Exhibition Place on September 25, and includes keynote speeches from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group.

The Prime Minister and Jack Ma will also participate in a fireside chat during the sold-out gathering of 2500 attendees.

“This event further solidifies a significant Canadian partnership with Alipay,” said Eric Paquet, Motion Pay’s newly appointed president and COO. “Our service enables Canadian businesses new sales opportunities by allowing Chinese in Canada to shop conveniently and safely with their Alipay accounts.”

“Chinese consumers have adopted mobile payments as the most convenient way to pay. With 1.7 trillion USD in transaction volume in 2016 and over 70% being processed through mobile payments, Alipay is transforming the payment ecosystem,” says Paquet, “and it’s just the beginning!” he adds.

China’s middle-class population, projected to exceed 600 million by 2022, presents a giant opportunity for retailers offering quality products, travel amenities and services. In tourism alone, China has become one of Canada’s largest overseas pleasure travel markets, according to a recent Statistics Canada report.

Gold sponsor Motion Pay offers a secure back-end server for Chinese to access their Alipay accounts, pay through their mobile phones, and enables Canadian merchant outlets to accept China RMB payments. In less than six months of operation it has already signed more than 600 merchants with retailers and businesses in every major Canadian city, from coast-to-coast.

Motion Pay will showcase its premier mobile-banking services at Gateway ‘17.
